Looking To Spice Up Your Life?

If you are a great cook, you probably have a favorite Spice Shop you frequent. There are two main ones in Milwaukee, the Spice House downtown on Old World 3rd Street and Penzeys on the west side in Wauwatosa. People come in from the suburbs of greater Milwaukee to frequent both. There is a strong opinion on each, and cooks have their favorites.

If you are not familiar with either, today I'd like to share with you information on Penzeys. You may have seen their billboard on Hwy 45 at Capitol Drive. They are just behind the Target Store and south of the Harley Davidson plant. Penzeys has everything spicy including:

  • Spices, Herbs and Seasonings
  • Specialty Spices
  • Mills and Containers
  • Gift Certificates
Penzeys not only has a convenient location, but a great sized store cleverly arranged. This new location has a very cute old fashioned "kitchen" area set up with all the baking items, such as this display of Vanilla and other extracts. Who would have thought there were so many varieties of Vanilla...Regular, Mexican, clear (so as not to turn your white frosting brown) etc.

Penzeys also has some great gift boxes, prepacked with complimentary seasonings. From mini gift sets at $11.95 to a giant Grand Spice gift set for $179.95! There are some great wedding sets , BBQ sets, Chili Sets, Baking Sets, all packed with some bay leaves and a whole nutmeg.

If you can't make it out to Penzeys, shop their online online store or order a catalog which is stuffed with products and recipes.

With some cabin fever setting in these days, spend the rest of the winter spicing up your home with something from Penzeys. If cabin fever is a terminal case, maybe a new home is on your shopping list. If that's the case, I can help. Selling real estate for the past 22 years, I have never seen prices this affordable, nor rates this low....I can help! Call me today Pat Tasker 414-588-4907, or text or email me at 414-588-4907.

East Towne Tosa

If you are looking for a vibrant community in an extremely convenient location, you must look at East Town Tosa. Located at the far NE section of Wauwatosa, this neighborhood is bordered by 60th Street to the East, 76th Street to the West, North Avenue to the South, and Center Street to the North (except for those few blocks where Wauwatosa runs North of Center for a half block or so - 73rd St, 74th St, and 75th St.).

Residents love the walkability of the neighborhood. On any given day or night you will see people out walking, usually with a dog or a stroller or both! You can walk to City Hall and the library, conveniently located on 76th & North Avenue, plus you can walk to schools, parks, and all the great shops and restaurants along North Avenue. Some of the best known restaurants are Il Mito, Ted’s, the Rosebud (a cinema drafthouse) and Cranky Al’s. Juniper 61 recently opened on the corner of 61st & North and is fast becoming a neighborhood favorite also.

Many of the homes in the neighborhood were built in the 1920’s and have lots of Old World Charm. You will find many bungalows, along with cape cods and colonials. Artificial fireplaces, built-in buffets or china cabinets, leaded glass, gleaming hardwood floors, coved ceilings and arched doorways are the norm. Here are interior pictures of a couple homes in the neighborhood that I have had the pleasure of selling.

Wauwatosa Beautification committee wine tasting

Wauwatosa is a city of volunteers. One of my favorite volunteer groups is the Wauwatosa Beautification committee (WBC). This is a group dedicated to maintaining the beauty of our city by planting and maintaining shrubs & flower beds throughout the City of Wauwatosa. When budget cuts threatened to eliminate most of the beautiful flower beds in the medians and in the planters along North Avenue, the WBC stepped in. For the last few years I have helped by volunteering as a “gardening angel”, planting and maintaining the flower bed in the median in front of my office on 117th and North Avenue.

This organization is 100% volunteer staffed and funded, and depends upon the donations of individuals and corporations, such as Hawk’s Nursery. The WBC also raises money through the annual Garden tour and this year is trying something new, a wine tasting. The first annual tasting with be held at Hawk’s Garden Center, 12217 Watertown Plank Rd, next Thursday, April 23rd, from 5:30-8:00 pm. For more information, along with locations to purchase advance tickets, please Click Here, or visit their web site: www.wbc-wi.org. I look forward to seeing you there!
