Menomonee Falls Independence Day Events 2011

The Village of Menomonee Falls will be celebrating Independence Day with a parade and fireworks on July 3, 2011. The parade will begin at 7 p.m. at the intersections of Elm Lane and Appleton Avenue. Parade participants will head east down Appleton Avenue to Woosencraft Drive. The parade is a pretty big event in Menomonee Falls. So big that spectators set up the day ahead to lay claim to the perfect spot! If you want to stake a claim, the Menomonee Falls Police Department will close Appleton Avenue between Elm Lane and Woosencraft Drive from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on July 2, 2011.

After the parade, head on over to the Menomonee Falls High School for some fantastic fireworks! The fireworks begin at dusk - approximately 9:30 p.m. Weather in Wisconsin is unpredictable, so if it rains we will watch the fireworks at dusk on July 5th instead. We hope you have a safe and happy Independence Day! God Bless America!

Kids from Wisconsin perform in Menomonee Falls!

The Kids From Wisconsin have performed around the state for years, entertaining and bringing smiles to those in the audience. On Friday, July 8th, at North Middle School in Menomonee Falls, you can check them out and see local MFHS grad Mackenzie Curran, who is touring with the show choir for her second year. Mackenzie was interviewed by Channel 12 during rehearsals this week.

The Kids from Wisconsin are a 40+ years old tradition, and their producer was a "kid" himself decades ago. You may have seen the Kids at the Wisconsin State Fair, where they perform two shows a day.

A group of 33 Wisconsin kids that auditioned and earned a spot in the troupe, spends 17 days at the State Fair dorms, practicing 12 hours a day in preparation for their summer tour. Their appearances number over 65 in 40 different venues around the state.

If you are looking for some great entertainment, check out their Menomonee Falls show July 8th at 7 p.m. North Middle School auditorium is located at N88 W16750 Garfield Drive, Menomonee Falls. Contact Eileen at 262-253-6560 for ticket information.

Woodman's Market Menomonee Falls

There is a new place to buy groceries in Menomonee Falls, WI. That’s right, Woodman’s Market is finally open for business. Open 24 hours a day, the new Woodman’s is located at W124N8145 Highway 145 in Menomonee Falls (124th St & Bradley Rd). This was my first time experiencing Woodman’s Market, and I was warned that I should plan at least 2 hours for my initial visit.

I didn’t have 2 hours to spare today, so I ran in with 3 things on my shopping list: eggs, charcoal & face cream. When I walked in the door, I was in awe. I knew it looked big from the outside, but inside it felt even bigger! As I wandered through the isles I could not believe the selection. There were at least 25 different types of bread alone! Inside of the large produce department, there is a section for organic foods. The back wall of the store offers a massive selection of meats - from prepackaged to fresh. I am told there is a small deli, too. It is between the meats & the yogurt, but I must have missed it.

I was in and out in about 10 minutes, not bad for a first-timer! As I wandered through, I noticed a few items that I buy on a regular basis were cheaper here. Things like: dog food, mini muffins & seltzer water. The eggs & charcoal were definitely cheaper, too. I’m not sure about the face cream, my daughter bought it last time so I don’t remember the price. All in all, I feel like today’s trip was worth my time. There is also gas station that didn’t appear to be open yet. I’m sure I will visit Woodman’s Market again, I am even recommending it to my friends.

If you are looking to make a move near the Menomonee Falls area, and are wondering what other amenities are in the area, contact us. The Kuchta’s, Kelly & Colleen

Haunted Houses in Wisconsin and Other Ghoulish Delights!

Thinking of taking a nice car ride on a beautiful fall day to look at colors, pick up a bushel of apples, or get lost in a corn maze?  Living in Germantown and Menomonee Falls gives you a long list to pick from!

Basses Farm Stand on County Line Road in Richfield has great produce, tons of pumpkins and one of the best corn mazes in Southeastern Wisconsin.  Keep driving west on County Line Road, and north on Scenic Drive, and you will be treated to some gorgeous views and lots of beautiful wildlife.  Once you get to Hwy 167, turn west and get some great photo ops of Holy Hill amidst the colorful fall foliage!

For those not faint of heart, Haunted Houses are such a thrill.  With many to choose from, the HUBERTUS HOUSE OF HORRORS is a must see.

It is big, warm, with long lines that move fast, according to comments of past visitors.

Right in our backyard is the Old Falls Village Family Halloween Fun Night

This year held October 22nd & 23rd, get the kids dressed in their costumes and bring your treatbags.  Most of the buildings will be open for Halloween Handout, including the latest buildings to open, The Steichen House and Sparrow Cabin.

If you are looking for a weekend getaway, I’d suggest the sleepy Mississippi River town of Cassville.  In October, the historic Stonefield Village is totally haunted for trick or treating youngsters.  The Saloon has root beer and the General Store has baked goods for sale.  The Blacksmith shop has storytelling, and the big barn is a scary haunted house.  Even the old covered bridge is swarming with witches brewing potions!  The kids bags are brimming with candy after a walk around this living history museum/town operated by the State Historical Society.  This has become a family favorite of ours! The event is on October 23rd, 2010.  Light Fright is from 4:30-6:30 and full fright starts at 6:30pm

Closer to home, take a ride to the East Side…Whitefish Bay is the home of Gordy Falk. Every year a GIANT DISPLAY OF CARVED PUMPKINS is a huge attraction at Old School House Park, across from the Library. This is a GREAT event for those little ones…their eyes will grow bigger and bigger as they view hundreds of creative carving all lit for a dramatic effect.  The enormous Pumpkin display and celebration runs from October 27th through the 31st.

For a long list of Halloween Haunts in Wisconsin, you can select one closest to home, or one worth the drive!

If you are out shopping for a home and are looking for one with a history, or prefer one with no spirits, call me!  I’d be happy to help you find the right home.  Rates are devilishly low, and many sellers are screaming “bring me an offer”!  Why not make your move while the market favors buyers so well?

Food for the Hungry

Kelly & I recently held a food drive in our neighborhood. We handed out 200 bags, and asked everyone to place the bag outside that Saturday so we could collect the food. We collected 52 bags, plus a large box of food and hygiene items! I know that doesn’t sound like a great response, but 26% is actually quite good. The following Tuesday, we dropped off the food and hygiene items at the Menomonee Falls food pantry. This wasn’t our first food drive, but this was the first time we actually saw people waiting in line for food. It really took me by surprise, and at the same time touched my heart. It was a great feeling to know that the food & hygiene items we collected were going to be used and appreciated by a person or family in need. So what’s my point? Well, its simple - give what you can to those who have a need. I am not asking you to have a food drive. I am asking you to buy an extra item or 2 each time you buy your groceries. If every single person put something in the collection barrel once a week, or even twice a month, there would be enough for everyone in need. A few things that are always appreciated are hygiene items like toilet paper, diapers, shampoo, soap & toothpaste - and of course FOOD. You could even volunteer to help at a local food panty! If you have a need, or want to do more to help, you can visit Feeding America. They will point you in the right direction. Not all of the smaller food pantries are listed here, so if you need more help finding one, please feel free to contact us, The Kuchta’s - Kelly & Colleen. Now get out there, and Give!

Menomonee Falls, Independence Day Parade

The Village of Menomonee Falls has one of the largest parades in the area to celebrate Independence Day. Every year people come from all around to watch the floats, dancers, clowns & members of local businesses march down Appleton Avenue. The 2010 parade will be held on July 3, beginning at 7pm. The Village of Menomonee Falls allows spectators to ‘reserve a spot’ up to 24 hours ahead of time. The ‘reservation’ is confirmed by roping or taping your preferred area off. Tarps and furniture are not allowed, and will be removed.

In years past, spectators would wait patiently in local parking lots & on village streets until they were allowed to reserve their spot. Once 7pm on July 2nd rolled around, people would make a mad dash to reserve their desired spot. This year, the village of Menomonee Falls will be closing Appleton Ave between Woosencraft Drive & Elm Lane on July 2nd between 7-7:30pm. The closing of the road is to ensure public safety. Also new this year, any persons entering the roadway/median outside of the 30 minute window will be fined. The fines range from $68.10 up to $807.00, so keep that in mind! Happy a safe and happy Independence Day celebration! As always, THANK YOU to all who serve! God Bless! The Kuchta’s, Kelly & Colleen http://www.thekuchtas.shorewest.com

The Cheesecake Store, Menomonee Falls

Over the Memorial Day weekend, my husband, Kelly, and I were invited to a house warming party. I wanted to bring something to eat to the party, but did not have the time available to cook or bake. I decided that cheesecake would be a good choice. Boy was I wrong - IT WAS GREAT! We ordered an 8” Turtle Cheesecake for $28.95. I thought the price seemed a little high, but ordered anyway. The next day, when we picked the cheesecake up, it weighed at least 5lbs! When we arrived at the party, the cheesecake received oohs & aahs, but the real praise came when we tasted it - simply amazing!

The Cheesecake Store is located on Main Street in Menomonee Falls, just north of the water fall. They sell cheesecake by the slice, on a stick or as a whole cake. There are lots of other goodies there, too. Check out their website, then stop in, and have a bite. You won’t be disappointed…mention that you heard about them from The Kuchta’s, Kelly & Colleen!

The Big Pig Gig back in Menomonee Falls for 2010

The Big Pig Gig, scheduled for September 17 and 18, 2010 is back after a year off.

The Menomonee Falls Community Chamber is bringing back the barbecue, music and entertainment festival after evaluating the past events and their popularity with the community. The 2010 Big Pig Gig promises to be bigger and better with a new location to be announced soon!

I think that local area businesses will see a larger impact from the new ideas being thrown around by this year’s committee members and staff. The event has always been well attended and this year is shaping up to be nothing less.

If you or your company is interested in volunteering or sponsoring this year’s Big Pig Gig, please feel free to give me a call at (414) 416-0704, or email me at mkoch@shorewest.com.

Is staging your home for sale really important?

Yes Yes and Yes!

Just a quick story I remember from a past transaction. Sarah and I listed a home in Menomonee Falls a few years back. It was very small- right around 900 square feet. You walked into this home and it was furnished perfectly. It was straight out of Pottery Barn! The furnishings fit the space and the walls had mirrors to make the rooms seems larger. They were decorated with accents that match the furnishings and carpet. And they had very few family photos that allowed the buyer to see themselves in the space and not the seller.

That home was purchased in less than a month by a woman that was coming from out of state. She viewed the home and loved it and wrote an offer right away. She closed a month later and had all of her furniture shipped to the new home… None of it fit. Everything she owned was too big for the spaces in the home. She ended up having to buy new furniture for almost every room. Why did this happen? Because the buyer fell in love with the “feeling” the home had. She totally forgot to keep in mind what would happen when the sellers’ belongings were removed and hers put in there place.

Is this a good story? It depends on how you look at it! It was truly a bummer for the buyer but she dealt with it. But for the seller who had a home that they knew was small and would have a hard time selling it couldn’t have worked out better! They loved the home and had it decorated the way they liked and in the end it was that sense of space and style that sold there home quickly and for more money then if it was vacant.

The moral of the story is this: people may tell you that you have to stage your home and even more people may tell you that people can see past your belongings. But at the end of the day you’re selling more then just a home when you put your house on the market- you’re selling someone’s dream! And the more you can do to make that dream as visible as possible upon entry, the more buyers you’re going to have interested in your home.

Remember! Clean, de-clutter and de-personalize, and if your real estate professional says your home would benefit from staging by a professional please hear them out. They may just know what they are talking about…
