Menomonee Falls

Walmart Neighborhood Market - Menomonee Falls

You may have noticed the construction on the southeast corner of Pilgrim Road and Main Street. Menomonee Falls is getting ready for the new Walmart Neighborhood Market. Right now work is being done on the water main and as well as demolishing the former Piggly Wiggly supermarket and other vacant space at Pilgrim Village shopping center. The former BP gas station and the movie theater will be razed as well. Minuteman Press has moved to the Falls Plaza II shopping center on Appleton Avenue. Sounds Audio has moved into the Neu’s building on Ridgeway. Both were tenants in the building being razed. The portions of the shopping center leased to Friends of Nature pet supply store and Otto's Wine and Spirits will stay.

The new Walmart Neighborhood Market claims to offer a quick and convenient shopping experience for customers who need groceries, pharmaceuticals and general merchandise. The items they will carry include:

  • Fresh produce
  • Meat and dairy products
  • Frozen foods
  • Dry goods and staples
  • Health and beauty aids
  • Stationery and paper goods
  • Drive-through pharmacy
  • Deli foods
  • Bakery items
  • Canned and packaged goods
  • Condiments and spices
  • Pet supplies
  • Household supplies
  • One-hour photo center

Along with the new Walmart Neighborhood Market, we will also see remodeling at the existing Schlotzky's Deli. Both Friends of Nature and Otto’s Beverage Center will have their storefronts revamped. The Walmart Neighborhood Market will bring life to a section of the Village that has needed attention for quite some time. If you are thinking of making a move to Menomonee Falls, or someplace nearby - we are here to help!

Menomonee Falls - Christmas Downtown 2011

Thanksgiving is not even here yet, but for many of us, we cannot help but look forward to Christmas. The Village of Menomonee Falls is the same way. This year, Christmas Downtown will be held on Sunday, November 27, 2011. From noon to 4 p.m., participating businesses will have open houses; there will be entertainment groups, carolers and $2 horse & wagon rides next to Associated Bank. Santa will be giving out goodies to boys and girls from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. - compliments of the Mason Lodge 183. At 4 p.m. in Centennial Park, the four corners of Appleton & main, The Christmas Tree Lighting will take place.

After all of the fun and festivities downtown, you can line up on Main Street or Appleton Avenue for the Annual Christmas Parade at 4:30 p.m. Be sure to bring a donation (non-perishable food or money) for the Menomonee Falls Food Pantry - volunteers will be walking along the Malkins Carpets truck to collect your gifts. The treetops glisten, and children listen to hear sleigh bells in the snow, because Santa will be at the end of the Parade, ready to welcome the Christmas Season!

Whether you celebrate Christmas, or hold true to another tradition, we hope to see you there!

Menomonee Falls Halloween Events 2011

The Village of Menomonee Falls always has something fun to do for the whole family, and Halloween is no exception! This year, the annual Halloween Downtown will be held on Thursday, October 27th, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Children will be able to Trick or Treat at the participating stores in the Village Centre. While children (under 12) are Trick or Treating, they can also participate in a fun Scavenger Hunt put on by the downtown businesses.

The fun does not stop there! The Spooky Walk Through Lime Kiln Park is a great way to finish the evening. The Spooky Walk will take place from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on October 27th. Accompany of Kids has set the theme for this year's spooky walk. The spirited adventure begins behind A.J. O'Brady's, in the municipal parking lot. When our daughter turned 11, we took her and her friends on the walk as part of her birthday party - we still talk about all of the fun we had!

On Halloween, October 31st, the Village-wide Trick Or Treat will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Remember to put safety first when using candles to light your pumpkins, and never light them near dried flowers, leaves, corn stalks or crepe paper. Also, make sure you are visible in the dark, use reflectors, flashlights & glow sticks to make you and your children more visible. Some of our local roads and sidewalks are under construction so be careful, but most of all - have a safe and happy Halloween!

Fresh Target - Menomonee Falls, WI

The Target in Menomonee Falls, located at N95W17707 Shady Lane, just got a facelift. In addition to the household, clothing, electronic, personal and pantry items they usually stock, they now carry fresh groceries. We stopped by this past Saturday to check it out, and found that the food was very fresh and priced competitively. We have a large family, so our bill is usually higher than most. We were pleasantly surprised when we were given our total. We found the experience to be quite pleasing because we were able to pick up a few clothing and personal items in addition to getting groceries.

The new fresh Target does not carry everything that you would find at a traditional grocery store, for example there is not a butcher, deli or bakery. The fresh meats and baked goods are pre-packaged, and the selection of fruits and vegetables is limited. However, we found the layout to be user friendly, and the quality and pricing to be pleasing. We will be shopping there again!

GERMANTOWN CHRISTMAS PARADE RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER!

The holiday season gets kicked off early by the local Christmas Parades, sponsored by local merchants. And isn’t it nice, it’s still called a Christmas Parade and not politically corrected to a “holiday parade?” This year’s theme is “CANDY CANE CHRISTMAS.”

Germantown’s parade is this Saturday November 13th. The Seasons kick off has grown to include several components this year, including a Jingle Bell Walk/Run, a toy, pajama and food collection, and the annual village tree lighting. All details can be found on the Germantown Chamber of Commerce website

The Parade has 3 large sponsors this year, while they are helping the event with the ir sponsorship, they bring attention to their businesses. Local sponsors include Germantown Clinic Columbia St Marys, The Deutschstadt Heritage Foundation and Milwaukee Appliance. Physicians, staff and employees of the sponsors will be walking in the parade.

The 5K run walk was added “as a way to bring visitors to the area and also to draw more residents out into the community” said Lynn Grgich, Chamber director. “Families can participate with their dogs and the more serious runners can be a part as well.”

A charity component is also on the schedule this year. Non-perishable food items will go to the St. Boniface Food Pantry, NEW childrens pajamas will go to “Our Kids Closet”, and new toys donated will go to the Toys For Tots campaign. Bring these items to the parade and they can be donated to “collectors” in the parade.

At 2pm,the parade follows the traditional route, starting in front of Walgreens on Pilgrim & Mequon Roads, through “downtown” or as I call it “old town” - Germantowns Main Street, and ending up in the parking lot behind Speedway.

The Village Tree Lighting will take place at the library at 2:30. Santa will be joined in by 2 of his reindeer. Photo ops will be available. Handlers will answer questions about Santas transporters, both fact and fiction. Join in the tree lighting and horse drawn carriage rides, hot beverages and cookies. The tree lighting is sponsored by Edward Jones in Germantown.

The Menomonee Falls Christmas Parade will be held November 28th, at 4:30, right after the tree lighting at 3:45 at Main Street and Appleton Ave. The big Milwaukee downtown parade will be held November 20th at 9:30am.

Have some fun launching your holiday season, and bring the family to one of these festive events. If you are looking for a new home for the holidays, there is still time! If you are looking in the city or suburbs of Greater Milwaukee, I can help. Elves aren’t the only ones working this time of year-I will be too! I look forward to your call.

Su Casa Mexican Grill

FINALLY! That’s what most residents are saying about the opening of Su Casa Mexican Grill’s new location in Menomonee Falls. It seemed to be ready for months,  with a new exterior, large patio fully planted locals have been anxiously awaiting the official opening.

The place has been hopping each day since they opened, so plan for a wait. The building is the former Ponderosa on Appleton Avenue near Pilgrim Rd & Menomonee Ave. The building underwent a complete makeover! The interior has 50% bar space with granite countertops and several large screen tv’s perfect for sport fans.

Once you get a table, your choice includes indoor or the large patio area area complete with lush floral covered stone walls and outdoor fireplace, perfect for summer evenings.

The menu is extensive standard Mexican food, including complimentary chips and salsa while you wait. Mortar ground guacamole received good reviews, while the salsa seemed average. Of course Margaritas with plentiful flavor choices come in in 3 sizes, and pitchers. The medium size made me wonder just how big the LARGE would be, as it was more than enough for the average fan. Food comes up fast, and I think they are balancing the feat of getting the food out fast and hot, while dealing with the throngs of curious patrons lined up and anxious to check out the place. (As of this writing, the website was not yet up and running.)

Specials include Happy Hour Monday-Friday from 2-5pm and a Mariachi Band on select evenings!

Su Casa has a great following from its other locales in Menomonee Falls and Sussex, so if the line is too long at the new address, you can rely on the others.

If you are looking for a great Mexican place to eat, check out Su Casa in the Falls. If you are looking for a new place to cook your own meals, entertain your friends during the football game, or relax on your own patio, call me and I can help you find a new home, either in the city or the suburbs of Greater Milwaukee!

Is staging your home for sale really important?

Yes Yes and Yes!

Just a quick story I remember from a past transaction. Sarah and I listed a home in Menomonee Falls a few years back. It was very small- right around 900 square feet. You walked into this home and it was furnished perfectly. It was straight out of Pottery Barn! The furnishings fit the space and the walls had mirrors to make the rooms seems larger. They were decorated with accents that match the furnishings and carpet. And they had very few family photos that allowed the buyer to see themselves in the space and not the seller.

That home was purchased in less than a month by a woman that was coming from out of state. She viewed the home and loved it and wrote an offer right away. She closed a month later and had all of her furniture shipped to the new home… None of it fit. Everything she owned was too big for the spaces in the home. She ended up having to buy new furniture for almost every room. Why did this happen? Because the buyer fell in love with the “feeling” the home had. She totally forgot to keep in mind what would happen when the sellers’ belongings were removed and hers put in there place.

Is this a good story? It depends on how you look at it! It was truly a bummer for the buyer but she dealt with it. But for the seller who had a home that they knew was small and would have a hard time selling it couldn’t have worked out better! They loved the home and had it decorated the way they liked and in the end it was that sense of space and style that sold there home quickly and for more money then if it was vacant.

The moral of the story is this: people may tell you that you have to stage your home and even more people may tell you that people can see past your belongings. But at the end of the day you’re selling more then just a home when you put your house on the market- you’re selling someone’s dream! And the more you can do to make that dream as visible as possible upon entry, the more buyers you’re going to have interested in your home.

Remember! Clean, de-clutter and de-personalize, and if your real estate professional says your home would benefit from staging by a professional please hear them out. They may just know what they are talking about…

Menomonee Falls

A quaint village at the northeast corner of Waukesha County, Menomonee Falls is a place you will find generations of families and newcomers alike! Spread over 33 square miles, you will find everything from residential development, shopping districts, restaurants, rural farmland, and industrial parks. Quality of life is enhanced by great schools, parks and many churches.

From the Cherry Cherry Craft Fair every fall, a Civil War Encampment, The Big Pig Gig BBQ, Christmas & 4th of July Parades, there is something for everyone!

Menomonee Falls is rich in history. The first settler is believed to be Hollingsworth Smith, and other settlers followed, attracted by the water, the falls of up to 50 feet, and the power they produce. The first land tracks were purchased in the 1840’s, and buildings built with stone from the area. The popular Lannon Stone is still quarried in this area today.

Menomonee Falls is the hometown of several well known names, such as Bob Uecker, voice of the Milwaukee Brewers, Andrew Hurley, drummer for the band “Fall Out Boy”, Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner, and PGA golfer Mark Wilson.

If you are looking for a great place to live, you will feel welcome in “The Falls”. Call Pat Tasker to see any homes available here! 262-437-5853 or ptasker@shorewest.com
