Plop, Plop, Fizz, Fizz

“Oh what a relief it is”, “Where’s the beef?”, Taste’s great, less filling”….These are all popular product jingles, that I bet you can still remember…. Not trying to date myself, but a memorable ad from my childhood is “From the land of sky blue waters, comes a beer refreshing, comes a beer refreshing” Again, that was my CHILDHOOD!

In January around SuperBowl weekend, there is a lot of talk about ad campaigns, and a lot of talk on the millions charged per second for that advertising. Monday Morning water cooler talk is usually more about the ads that aired, than the game itself. But when asked about the actual product that was being promoted, many times the general public doesn’t remember what was even being advertised!

A successful ad campaign, not only entertains, but cements the product into your memory! At Shorewest, our most memorable ad campaign would have to be the “Yodeler”. Not only did it entertain, the music stuck in your mind, AND it gave the message loud and clear that Shorewest sells more homes than anyone else. A copy of that ad  is sure to entertain even today!

Times have not changed, and you can still count on Shorewest getting the job done. So far this year, other company sales numbers pale in comparison to Shorewest. If you are looking to sell or buy a home in the city or the suburbs of Greater Milwaukee, you must consider Shorewest. As part of my marketing campaign, I not only advise on pricing, proper placement, advertising of the home, but also on staging and prepping the home to go on the market for maximum results! So call me for advice, whether buying or selling, and you too will be yodeling a happy tune!

One man's junk is another man's treasure......

We’re all familiar with the saying and this Saturday May 15th, 2010 in Jackson, Wisconsin you’ll be able to experience this first hand and find many treasures at the 29th Annual Jackson Rummage. Jackson is a small town atmosphere with large community conveniences nearby. Nestled between West Bend, Slinger and Germantown is this family oriented community with a steady growing estimated population of 6386 in 2009. Only 15 miles north of Milwaukee yet situated in the heart of the Kettle Moraine. The Village of Jackson was named after President Andrew Jackson and back in 1872 was an unincorporated hamlet known as Riceville. You can read more about the history of Jackson on the Village website. An interesting tidbit that might intrigue children is that back in the early day the children in Jackson rode the train to school in West Bend, a far cry from daily transportation today.

If you’re looking for a community to call home, come take a drive through town and travel through the different subdivision communities and condo developments, there really is something for everyone. The recently completed Jackson Community Center offers a fitness center, youth camps, open gym and even a church worship service on Sundays plus a whole lot more. Click here for the Spring/Summer 2010 flyer.

So if you’re off to find a treasure in Jackson check us out this weekend or if you’re looking for a new place to call home, as a local Realtor and expert in the area I can show you around our great town of Jackson and acquaint you with the housing market too! Just contact me via email at or at 262-437-5843.

What Happens Now, After the Tax Credit? Can Real Estate Stand On It’s Own 2 Feet?

As most people are aware, the $8,000 tax credit ended at midnight on April 30th.  Early in the year, it seemed like it would be doom and gloom for months after that.  By the end of March, beginning of April, the mood seemed to be improving, in regards to life after the tax credit!

During open houses in April, I started hearing buyers say, “yes, we’d love the tax credit, but we aren’t going to make a quick decision just to get it!”  That was refreshing to hear.  While I know some buyers may have bought, just to “get it done” in time, many were smart and shopped with cool heads.

WHY WOULD YOU BUY NOW, IF YOU MISSED THE TAX CREDIT?  I can give you several reasons.

•     Low interest rates, even though they were predicted to go up quickly and dramatically, so far they have been very good.

•     Great inventory is still out there

•     Lower prices than we’ve seen in years

•     WHEDA is back, and FHA is as busy as ever!  MORTGAGE MONEY IS AVAILABLE!

•     A HOUSE IS MORE THAN AN INVESTMENT!  It is a place you bring your new baby home to, entertain friends at a backyard BBQ, celebrate the holidays, and go home to at the end of a long work day!  It is a safe, warm welcoming place you call HOME

Our first 4 months of this year have produced some interesting numbers.  New inventory is up 20%, and sales are up 40%!  That shows that the inventory is starting to head towards a balanced market.  So if you are a buyer, it is good to buy now, before the rates go up and the market swings out of buyers favor.

For a list of homes in the City or Suburbs of Greater Milwaukee, call or email Pat Tasker at ptasker@shorewest.com    You too can make a good buy if you act now.  The stock market proved yesterday it is not for the faint of heart.  But real estate over the long haul has proven that it is a good investment.

Getting Rid of Unwanted Pests

A Realtor friend of mine recently had a final walk-thru with one of her clients 2 days prior to their closing. They were walking through the house, taking note that all of the tasks that needed to be addressed had been completed. When they walked into the back yard to check the grading, they noticed that there was a large amount of dirt displaced around the porch. A critter had dug a hole, and was residing under the back porch. After a little research, they learned it was pretty easy to get rid of the unwanted guest without causing any physical harm to the animal. The Wisconsin Humane Society said to use the rule of three!
  1. Soak an old towel in ammonia and place it in the hole for 3 days. The smell will be offensive to the animals.
  2. Tune a radio to a talk radio station. It doesn’t have to be blasting, just loud enough to hear before they get inside. Animals don’t want to come into an area where humans are hanging out.
  3. Place a light in the hole. It can be a flashlight, or any light that will remain lit for 3 days. This is very scary to those creatures of the night.

Put all 3 items in the hole that the critter has claimed as their new home. Within 3 days your unwanted guest will be gone - hopefully far away. No harm done! For more great advice on how to deal with pest visit: www.wihumane.org.  They can help you with pets, too. In the end, the buyers closed on the home, and their unwanted guest moved out.
